Chapter 17 – The Identity of Letters and Misha

*pant* *pant* *pant*

Oh, Misha is back.

"Didn't you already know that I can talk?" (Gail)

*startle*

"I-I-I did say that, but I didn't really think Young Master could really talk like this." (Misha)

"I will explain it, but first close the door." (Gail)

"Y-Yes!" (Misha)

*slam*

I guess she is still scared. I couldn't blame her because anyone would react the same if a one-year-old suddenly started talking like an adult.

“Wh-Why did you keep it secret? Isn't it amazing that Young Master can already speak at this age?" (Misha)

"What do you think? You are trembling right now." (Gail)

"That's...." (Misha)

"It's creepy when a one-year-old suddenly starts talking normally, right? That's why I kept my mouth shut." (Gail)

*silence*

"When did you learn to talk?" (Misha)

"It's only recently. Until about six months ago, I even had no idea what everyone was saying." (Gail)

"Eh!? Has Young Master been aware about language since then?" (Misha)

Oh, shit!

"No. it's not like that. I also started to understand about language only recently. I just thought that I didn't understand what was going on at that time." (Gail)

"How can you speak so fluently? I thought that maybe Young Master could speak, but it was more like baby talk....." (Misha)

"Oh, that's..... because I learned from Misha who often talks to me, I guess?" (Gail)

"I've never talked like this." (Misha)

Yeah, right. Misha always uses honorifics when she talk to me. She is more perceptive than I thought. Oh, I found a good excuse.

"Maybe it's because of magic? I apparently can use magic." (Gail)

It will be easier to bring this topic later if I disseminate the fact that I can use magic now. Yup, it's a good excuse.

"Magic?" (Misha)

"That's right. It's all thanks to magic!" (Gail)

"How do you know about magic when no one told you it exists?" (Misha)

*silence*

The more I talk, the deeper I fall into the hole. Maybe Misha is actually smarter than me.

"Could it be that you are actually my father? Because you died leaving me all alone, you became worried and came back........

*sob* *sob* *sob* FATHER!!!" (Misha)

Misha hugged Gail and started crying.

"No, that's wrong! That's wrong!" (Gail)

"*sob* is that wrong? You talk just like my father, though...." (Misha)

"Unfortunately, I'm not Misha's father." (Gail)

"B-But...." (Misha)

Despite already working like an adult, Misha is still a child. I'm sure she is missing her parents who died early. I feel like I've done something bad to her.

I wonder how much I should tell her. Of course, it's better to keep quiet about the other world. Let’s talk about Megumi while omitting the details for a start.

"Misha, listen carefully to what I'm about to tell you." (Gail)

"Yes, Father.... I mean, Young Master." (Misha)

I've told you that I'm not your father.

"Actually, when I was six months old, I received a revelation from the Goddess." (Gail)

"A revelation...?" (Misha)

"Yes, a revelation. I was told that I can use magic and I should use this power for the world." (Gail)

"Y-Young Master is actually a Goddess' apostle? I'm sorry for mistaking you as my father!" (Misha)

Stop it! I don't want to be called an apostle of someone who gives explanations lacking in intelligence. It's just a result of a personnel transfer.

"It's not that big of a deal, so just treat me like usual." (Gail)

"But...." (Misha)

"I'm just a one-year-old boy named Gail Dinoslayer. I'm not your father nor a Goddess' apostle. I'm just a baby who can do a little magic and talk earlier than normal." (Gail)

*silence*

"I don't really get it, but I understand." (Misha)

Phew, it seems I made it through somehow.

"I'm not a Goddess' apostle, but since I was told to use this power for the world, I want to learn about various things as soon as possible. Misha can help me, right?" (Gail)

"Yes. I don't know if I can be of help, but I will do my best!" (Misha)

"Thank you. Misha is really a good girl." (Gail)

"Ehehehe~" (Misha)

    Misha laughed bashfully.

I feel like we have become like father and daughter for some reason.

"First of all, I want to learn how to read and write, but can Misha teach me?" (Gail)

"Yes, of course. I learned it at school." (Misha)

So there's school not only for nobles but also for commoners. That's good news.

"Then I will go get something to write on." (Misha)

“Please do! Also, don’t tell anyone about this.” (Gail)

“I understand. Or rather, no one would believe me.” (Misha)

Misha went off to get something to write on in a good mood.

Misha came back with something like a slate after a while.

“I'm sorry to keep you waiting. Then I'll write it down here.” (Misha)

Misha wrote down all the letters.

This is.... the same as the example I saw in Bent's room. There is no doubt. This is alphabet. The numbers are also exactly the same. What does this mean?

"First these are all the letters---" (Misha)

"Misha! This is "A," this is "I," and this is "K," right?" (Gail)

"What? Did Young Master already memorize them?" (Misha)

Yeah, I mean, this is just alphabet and numbers we are talking about.

"Eh? Seriously? Young Master John and Young Master Bent started learning how to read and write before entering the school. But normally, it would takes one year after entering school to learn them perfectly." (Misha)

What!? You learn how to read and write over the course of one year?

"Young Master is really amazing, after all!" (Misha)
