Chapter 47 - For Bent
The panel was too weak last time and imploded. I need to make it a bit thicker this time.
Gail turned the failed panel back into a chunk of aluminum, inflated it like a balloon, and slowly transformed it into a rectangle shape.
Phew, I managed to make it faster than before....
Gail made a hole on the panel after that, stuck his finger into it, and then sucked the air inside to make a vacuum.
*suck*
*suck*
*suck*
Just a bit more....
*suck*
*suck*
Now close the hole.... and done!
The panel didn't implode this time, but is it really a vacuum inside? There's no way to check it. I'll just have to believe it's a vacuum.
【Magic Power】: 60/85
Yeah, it definitely consumed less magic power than before. I wonder if I will be able to make the box-shaped vacuum panel with my remaining magic power. I'll get a magic potion ready just in case.
Gail inflated the remaining aluminum ingot into a huge balloon and then slowly transformed it into a box shape without a lid.
I think it's still too big.
Let's make it smaller.... and perfect!
Like before, Gail made a hole on the panel, stuck his finger into it, and then sucked the air inside to make a vacuum.
*suck*
*suck*
*suck*
I think this is the limit. Let's close the hole.
A box-shaped (without a lid) vacuum panel was completed.
【Magic Power】: 5/85
Looks like I just barely avoided throwing up.
Gail was exhausted from the sense of accomplishment and the intense concentration, so he decided to lie down in the grass for a bit.
"Hey, Gail, come over here for a second!"
Gail, who pretended not to hear the call, was dragged into the cabin by Arnold.
"Gail, did you see Bent breaking the swords?"
It’s hard to say; 'No, I didn't see it.' in this atmosphere, but I really didn’t see it.
“I didn’t see it, but I can imagine it.”
“What do you mean?”
"Bent has a certain habit when swinging a sword."
I only noticed it after I started training myself.
"What kind of habit?"
"His sword always sways to the left at the end of his swing."
"Explain more clearly."
"Like this, the sword goes straight at the start, but then it swings to the left at the end."
"You noticed that?"
"I watch him train every morning, after all."
"Sir, I think he developed such a habit because he only focused on training his dominant hand. The reason his sword always sways to the left is probably because he unconsciously exerts more strength into his right hand."
"I see...."
"How about making him do practice swing with a light sword using only his left hand to restore the balance?"
“That’s a good idea.”
"I also think that's a good idea. You can focus on fixing Young Master Bent's bad habits after Young Master John's entrance test is over. The important thing is to stop Young Master Bent from training on his own."
"Thanks, Gail and Dan. I think I know what to do about Bent now. I'll focus on his training once John's entrance test is over."
Good for you, Bent. Your craving for attention will be satisfied soon.
"Now then, since it looks like you've found the solution, shouldn't you go back to your work, Dad?"
Arnold suddenly looked like an abandoned dog.
This feels like telling a friend who hasn't finished their homework to stop playing and go home.
"No, well, since I've come all this way, I'll practice my magic before I go home."
I will get scolded anyway, so I will play until I'm satisfied before going home --- that’s probably what he is thinking.
Arnold tried to attack the target practice with fire magic without creating fireballs while shouting 'Daaah! Daaah!'.
From here, he just looks like a strange man shouting something random in the woods. If someone who didn't know saw this, they probably wouldn't dare to go near him.
"Hey, kiddo, is that thing finished?"
Miguel asked Gail.
"Yeah, I guess."
"You guess? What does that mean?"
Gail showed Miguel the finished box-shaped vacuum panels.
"Isn't that just a metal box?"
"You have to install this into a wooden box first."
“You should’ve said that sooner!”
Miguel took the vacuum panels from Gail and went off somewhere while grumbling.
“Here, it’s done!”
That was quick. He even fitted the vacuum panel lid to the wooden lid perfectly.
"It's basically finished now. The only thing left is to test how well it retains the temperature."
"How do you do that?"
"I'll fill this cooler box and a normal wooden box of the same size with ice and leave them alone. Tomorrow, we will see the difference."
"So, we won't know for sure until tomorrow?"
"That's right."
"Tch!"
Miguel clicked his tongue and then went to make another wooden box.
"Okay, I fill them with ice now."
Gail rapidly cooled the water, turning it into ice cubes, and then putting them inside the boxes.
Ice magic is surprisingly easy if you understand that water freezes below 0 degrees. Though it seems not many people in this world can use it.
"I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
"If it doesn't work, I'm going to punch you."
W-What!?
“H-Hey, it's not guaranteed to work on the first try, so no punching, okay?”
"Just kidding."
No, it doesn't sound like a joke coming from you.
Dan came over, having finished making some light, long swords for Bent's training.
"Those are pretty long swords."
"This will make it easier to see when you made a mistake. It’s perfect for getting used to swinging straight down.”
He really thought this through. Or perhaps he himself had undergone this kind of training in the past.
"I think it's about time we go home...."
Arnold came over with a frustrated look on his face. He still couldn't use fire magic to attack without fireballs.
It would be nice if there was a way to break free from the ingrained image of fire magic attack.
On the way back, Gail stopped by the trading company to tell Dwan that he had finished making the prototype and was currently testing it.
Let's not tell Dwan that I'm trying to make a cooler box. If he learns that it can be used to carry around chilled alcohol, he'll definitely make a scene like Miguel.
Gail said goodbye to Miguel in front of the mansion, promising to meet him again tomorrow.
"Welcome home, D-E-A-R."
Aina welcomed Arnold while smiling, but her eyes were not.
